Following high school graduation, I felt a calling to serve my country and enlisted in the United States Air Force. I served as a Security Policeman for eight years both stateside and overseas in Okinawa, Japan and the Republic of South Korea.
Veteran issues are very important to me. I am very proud to serve both my profession and my veteran comrades as a member of the Great Lakes National Cemetery Advisory Council. I am also an active member of both the American Legion, where I am the current Finance Officer for our local post, and the life member of VFW. I have had the privilege of being involved in passing veteran related bills in Michigan while part of the MFDA Board.
While working as a member of NFDA Board of Directors I have been able to bring my unique perspective to collaborate on national veteran’s issues. Most recently, I was able to assist in passing the BRAVE ACT , which provides equal death benefits to veterans no matter where they died.
I also strongly support the Journey to Serve initiative which is a collaboration between the Funeral Service Foundation and the ICCFA Educational Foundation. I know first-hand the struggles of transitioning from the military back to civilian life and the stress it can bring to a veteran and their family. Being a Veteran allows me to relate and explain the benefits of the Journey to Serve campaign to my fellow veterans as they seek a second career and employment within funeral service following their military careers.
Being a veteran, I know the commitment and discipline it takes to lead and serve. As President-Elect, I will uphold the strides we’ve made to advocate for our members and their communities.
